Advance Illinois’ Educator Advisory Council (EAC), made up of teachers from across the state, published this report on its vision for the future of teaching and learning in Illinois. The EAC believes the “new school” should be a place where teachers can collaborate effectively with one another, work productively with administrators, continue their learning and development, and advance their careers without leaving the classroom.

For this vision to become a reality, we need to overhaul the way we operate schools, realizing that prioritizing initiatives like collaboration, professional development, and differentiated teacher ladders will improve teachers’ capacity for effective instruction and, thereby, the outcomes of the students they serve.
