State Report Card Toolkit

Help your district improve in two critical areas: Learning Conditions and Readiness

Our State Report Card explains what success looks like and how close we are to achieving it. We hope that you use this data to put in place the conditions that will lead to success in your district. We have created a Toolkit for community members like you who want to help their local school district improve.

The Toolkit begins by offering you background information about a topic, gives you presentation materials that you can use to inform fellow community members, and talking points for your conversations with district officials.

We offer Toolkits for two critical areas: Learning Conditions and Readiness.

Learning Conditions are the ‘climate’ or ‘feel’ of a school. They represent the parts of the school environment that affect the attitudes and behaviors of students and staff, including: safety, level of expectations and participation, strength of relationships among adults & students, and parent and community engagement.

Research has shown that schools with a better school climate see increased student learning and achievement.

Readiness: Educators talk about “readiness” as whether a student is prepared to handle instruction at a certain level. Some of the important “ready” stages are:

• Kindergarten-ready
• 3rd Grade-ready
• 8th grade-ready
• College or career-ready

Whether your child is planning to attend college or move directly into the workforce, educators are in agreement that today’s world demands rigorous preparation to be successful.
