Juan Pablo Esquivel

How did you decide to go into the education field?

As a Special Education (SPED) educator, my decision to enter the education field stems from a deep passion for nurturing students' quantitative skills and problem-solving abilities. I believe in unlocking the potential in every student, guiding them to excel in math and science. My commitment to creating engaging and inclusive learning environments aligns with my belief in the transformative power of education.

How has school funding made a difference in your classroom?

School funding plays a crucial role in providing resources and tools that enhance the learning experience. Adequate funding enables me to implement innovative lesson plans, incorporate technology into our lessons, and collaborate with colleagues to share best practices. It directly impacts the quality of education by ensuring access to materials that enrich students' understanding of STEM subjects.

What resources and supports can further benefit your classroom/school/community?

Additional resources and support, particularly in the form of professional development opportunities, and community engagement programs, can significantly benefit my classroom and school. These resources would enable me to continue enhancing student outcomes and fostering a positive learning environment.

Who/What inspires you? Why?

I find inspiration in the unique qualities of every student. Seeing their progress, comprehension, and mastery of concepts motivates my dedication to teaching. Moreover, collaborative endeavors with fellow educators and the wider community inspire me, acknowledging the shared influence we wield in shaping the forthcoming generations.

What accomplishment fills you with pride so far this year?

This year, I feel a sense of accomplishment in effectively executing cross-disciplinary curricula, blending science with various subjects. This inventive method has assisted students in comprehending the interrelations between science and domains such as math, engineering, and business, promoting a more comprehensive grasp of the subject.

If you could pass on any wisdom to your students, what would you share?

I believe it's valuable for students to welcome challenges as chances for personal development. The capacity to persist through difficulties, combined with a curiosity-fueled outlook, can result in significant personal and academic accomplishments. I aim to convey to them that learning is an ongoing journey, and every obstacle encountered serves as a step toward success.

What is your favorite movie/book?

Aldous Huxley's "Brave New World" is an influential work that I appreciate. The novel's examination of the impact of technology and conformity on society aligns with my interest in fostering critical thinking and individuality in students. This broader literary perspective enhances my approach to education by encouraging students to consider the implications of scientific and technological advancements on the world around them.
