Megan Zamora

How did you decide to go into the education field?

In college I worked with bilingual students earning their GED. This inspired me to go into the education field.

How has school funding made a difference in your classroom?

School funding has allowed my school to support teachers in pursuing additional endorsements and higher-level coursework to meet the needs of all students. This has a direct impact on students and their instruction.

What resources and supports can further benefit your classroom/school/community?

Our school community could benefit from additional staff to support students in our high needs areas; this includes ESL, special education, counseling, and vocational.

Who/What inspires you? Why?

I am inspired by my students. I am passionate about making sure that they have opportunities to showcase all that they are capable of. They need to recognize all of the potential inside themselves.

What accomplishment fills you with pride so far this year?

This year, a group of students at the high school has taken charge of an event that the district used to offer when they were young. The district was no longer able to facilitate this fun family event, but the students thought it should be brought back. They have worked hard organizing and planning this event. I am so proud of their leadership and willingness to continue traditions so that the younger students will be able to participate in this holiday festival.

If you could pass on any wisdom to your students, what would you share?

It is OK to take your own path. Do not follow what you think is expected of you merely because it is what you “should”do. Do what will bring you joy.

What is your favorite movie/book?
