Illinois’ Proficiency is Stagnant
Mirroring national trends, only about a third of Illinois students are at or above proficient in reading and math.
Despite the stagnant proficiency, Illinois’ 8th grade proficiency has climbed in national ranks in the past four years, bringing it to the top ten in both subjects. This climb suggests Illinois students were able to weather the pandemic better than most.
